How to Stay Comfortable on a Long Flight

At times when you have no options, you take a long flight. This is an actual fact that long flights are tiring, but you still can make yourself comfortable during a long flight. Like for example if you are flying from Australia to London, usually the time taken by the airlines to reach the destination is approximately 22- 23 hours. Now imagine a situation where you are sitting in a cabin with another 20-30 people, children screaming, legs locked and body all tired. Isn’t it giving you chills? So, if you are booking flights to London, then you must be already searching for tips/ hacks that could help you in having a comfortable time flying.

Early bookings

Isn’t this obvious, that you should book early because that will give you a chance of getting your favorite seat in the entire cabin. So you can select it and have a great flying experience.

Wear Comfy Clothes

Undoubtedly one of the best ways to be comfortable unless you love fighting with clothes throughout the travel. Comfortable clothes that are loose enough to stick to your body can give you a very good flying experience. Loose shirts, slippers, flip- flop, Pajamas, hoodies can be in your wear list. They will not pose problems while you sleep and not make you uncomfortable while sitting.

Cancel the noise

The unnecessary noise of the turbines and shafts of the airplane is nothing to worry about when you are traveling at short distance, but for longer ones, you definitely will be facing problems. So irrespective of your seat location in the flight, just carry a noise cancelation headphone for yourself. This will silence all the outside noise and give you peace of mind. You can listen to music or just lay down with your eyes closed and sleep.

Carry a blanket

At times the changing temperature, inside the cabin can be problematic. So even if you dress up quite well, you still face the problem of switching your clothes over and over again. The better thing here to do is to carry a blanket with yourself. This won’t unnecessarily make your bag heavy, and it will give you a comfortable flight.

Eye Masks

Just like the blanket and headphones, eye masks are also very important for you while traveling to a distant place. Irrespective of the fact that you are taking a red-eye flight or not, you can always carry the eye mask with you. This helps you sleep even when the lights are on. This is a must carry essential for all those who are traveling on long flights.

Carry a pillow

Oh! Now, this is one of the most needed items for travelers. Carrying a pillow can ease you up even if you don’t sleep. People just follow the trend and go for the normal U-shaped pillow. But is that so goods? Use it temporarily and then decide, because if you don’t invest in your pillow, you are definitely going to hurt your shoulder and neck with cramps. To get a good night sleep and also to cushion your neck, you need a good pillow. So choose wisely and enjoy your long hour flights as well.

Check with the seating chart

Getting a cheap airfare is one thing but do not forget the other equally important part is the seat chart. If you have finalized the plans with dates and location all set. Do not forget to check with the seating chart for the availability of your favorite seat. It will definitely give you a good push if you get the seat of your choice.

No crossing legs, please!

This might be a new and odd sounding hack for many of us, but this is completely and totally true that if you sit in a plane with your legs crossed, this would definitely make your body cranky. Apart from aching legs, you will also feel anxiety problems at times. So, you should avoid crossing legs to feel comfortable while traveling.

Say no to alcohol

I know it becomes really difficult to travel without drinking for most of us but trust me if you drink too much, you are going to face problems. Now, it will not just affect your mind but also your body. With long hours of sitting, hangover, and inactivity, you might face problems while traveling and even for a few hours after you land. So, check when you take a sip of alcohol.

Don’t stuff yourself too much

This is a fact that no one will deny and this is true for not just the flights but any mode of travel. If you eat too much, even munching on snacks, you might end up having some stomach problems while traveling or at least the food will keep you feeling uneasy all the time. So it will be better if you do not eat too much, fried or junk food.

Don’t watch anything first

This is one thing that most of us don’t follow, and some of us often forget. If you are traveling on a plane that has extended hours of the journey, then one thing is for sure that you will be given a screen for entertainment. There might be lots and lots of options in front of you to entertain yourself, but if you directly sit in front of the screen, the complete journey might make you uncomfortable. The first and the foremost thing you can do as soon as you board your flight, just sit back and relax. The flight is too long, and you have a lot of time to watch whatever you want. So try and not rush into it.

Upgrade your tickets

After you have booked your flight tickets, you can simply check out the frequent flyer program and use your points to upgrade your ticket. The better your travel class is, the more comfortable you get to enjoy. So if you have enough points just upgrade to a first-class flight and enjoy various perks that they give.

Jet Lag is obvious

Now you don’t know how the travel would end up as it is better if you already have this in mind that you can get jet lagged. There are a lot of things that you can do to prevent yourself from jet lag, but one small mistake and you end up making your travel sour.
